Week 2 recap

by Jeff Gordon

After an action packed opening weekend, all 6 teams were set to return to action for week 2 of the SCLL's 2024 season.

Kicking the weekend off the Gamecocks, fresh off an opening weekend shootout win, squared off against the Devils, in search of their first win under the new branding. An instant mismatch was apparent as the Gamecocks bench was severely depleted from the opening weekend against a Devils bench that nearly doubled in size from the week prior. The Devils opened things up early in the game and never looked back as they cruised to a 13-2 win, thanks in part a dynamic  new face-off duo of specialist Tyler Valdesptino and Angelo Venuto.

In the mid-card slot, SCLL originals the King Cheetahs faced the vaunted Los Banditos. Once again with a deep and all-star filled roster the Banditos flexed their muscle against the Cheetahs, led by long time SCLL goaltending staple Jacob Craig taking a commanding 15-3 win.

Closing out week 3 was the much anticipated rematch of the 2023 championship the Crush versus the Cougars. In a reversal fortune, the Cougars proved their youth and team cohesions would be an important factor for their championship campaign as they secured the 14-13 win in the leagues second shootout finish in as many weeks.

The Cougars remain the lone undefeated team in the league and will look to keep their top position locked up with an early season rematch with the Los Banditos in week 3.
