2024 Week 1 Recap

The SCLL's opening weekend for the 2024 regular season did not disappoint! With 3 incredible games on the schedule teams were eager to hit the freshly renovated floor at the Victory Athletic Center. 

The opening game of the weekend had 2023 defending champions, the Crush, facing off against the Gamecocks in a true clash of heavyweights. From the opening whistle the games traded goals with neither team taking a lead more than 2 goals throughout the game. 48 minutes proved not enough to decide a winner coming down to a shootout with Gamecocks forward Dean Grau sealing the win on the final shot for the 16-15 victory. 

Players and fans were riding the first games wave of energy as last years runner up, the Cougars, took on perennial powerhouse Los Banditos. In contrast to the first games high scoring, offensive showcase, this second matchup proved to be a goaltender showcase with the Cougars locking down a star studded Los Banditos roster for the 7-6 win. 

The Los Banditos didn't have much time to rest as they quickly turned around to take on the re-branded Devils (formerly the Titans) in the final game of the afternoon. Despite having just played, the Banditos only proved their depth will carry them deep into the playoffs with an impressive 12-3 win. 

The chase for the championship is on, who will take home the hardware at the end of the season?
